Applications Open for the Second PITO Enrollment
August 14, 2008
Applications are now open for the second PITO enrollment period (October 1, 2008 - March 31, 2009) for the PITO Implementation & Transition Support Program (learn more). Applications for the second enrollment period are available via the online PITO application form and will be open until September 26.
If you are not yet ready to implement an EMR, another application period will open in February, 2009 for the April - September 2009 enrollment period.
NOTE: If you applied during the first application period in February were not selected, you do not need to reapply for the October - March enrollment. Your application remains active for the second application period.
The Physician Master Agreement defined the funding to be released to PITO each year (total $107.8m over the 6 years), limiting the number of applications that can be accepted each year. If applications exceed the funds available in any given enrollment period, the applications will be prioritized as follows:
- Individual Practices (or small groups): 50% of spaces in each period will be designated for regular applications from individual physician practices or small groups of practices. If applications exceed the funds available, those to receive support and funding during the current enrollment will be selected through a blinded lottery process.
- Communities of Practice (large groups): 50% of spaces in each period will be designated for communities of practice, larger groups of physicians wishing to select and implement a common EMR to support their collective needs. Prioritization within that 50% will be based on size of the group and commitment. See the Communities of Practice page for more details. If not all groups applying as Communities of Practice can be funded in a given period, those not selected will be included in the regular lottery for individual practices.
- Early Adopters & Pre-Purchase (see definitions): Those already signed up for PITO through the Early Adopter Program or Pre-Purchase will be scheduled for upgrade to / implementation of a PITO-Qualified EMR according to the same processes as above.
If applications exceed funding for any given enrollment period, those not chosen will be included in the application period for the subsequent enrollment and included in the prioritization process for that period.
