PITO Funding Programs Announced
October 21, 2007
The PITO Steering Committee has approved three primary funding programs. These programs have been designed to be responsive to the existing state of EMR adoption in BC and future physician needs.
Full Implementation & Transition Support Program
- Intended for physicians entering the PITO program to implement a PITO-qualified EMR
- Applies to those converting to a PITO-qualified EMR, or implementing an EMR for the first time.
- Physicians will receive full PITO support for pre-planning, vendor selection, and implementation support
Pre-Purchase Program (prior to PITO funding)
- Intended for physicians who do not yet have an EMR, but have decided they cannot wait to receive PITO funding and choose to proceed outside of the PITO Implementation & Transition Support (ITSP) program
- Applies primarily if applications for PITO funding exceed available overall PITO program funding in a given year and a physician chooses not to wait
- Physicians may proceed with purchase of a PITO-qualified EMR and-or computers without funding if they have an urgent need, and be reimbursed for eligible one-time costs when they enter the PITO program
Early Adopter Program
- Intended for physicians who had an EMR prior to July 20, 2006 (reference President's Letter, July 20, 2006)
- Physicians are eligible for 70% of eligible ongoing costs for up to 18 months of ongoing use of their existing EMR, contingent on conversion to a PITO-qualified EMR within 18 months
