The third regular semi-annual PITO enrolment occurred today with the addition of over 500 more physicians to bring the total enrolled to approximately 2,000.
The target is enrolment of 1,000 physicians per year in two annual enrolments (April 1 and October 1). The first enrolment occurred on April 1, 2008 with 1,346 applications of which 500 were enrolled. Another 600 applications were received during the following 6 months and another enrolment occurred on October 1 bringing the total to slightly over 1,000.
A special one-time enrolment of 290 physicians occurred in February of clinics that had already implemented EMRs and were registered through the Early Adopter or Pre-Purchase programs.
With the addition of another almost 550 physicians today, the total enrolled in the program has reached almost 2,000. This is already almost half of the target for March 2012 of 4,000 - 4,200, and places the enrolment ahead of schedule (the target enrolment for this stage was 1,500).
The next enrolment will occur on October 1. Physicians can apply online at any time. Additional enrolment may occur prior to October 1 if capacity is available (based on budget and resources).
